How are you doing today? I’m actually feeling pretty peaceful on this loaded day, in part I think because instead of turning on the news, I am writing you this letter. At least that’s how I’m feeling for the time being. Whatever you are feeling today, if you are elated or in despair, I hope you will take some time to make some art. Art and the making of it, as my wise and lovely friend Mary Danzig said recently, “matter for the health of people’s souls.” I believe art heals both the receiver and the artist. And it doesn’t even have to be “good” art or “done” art. The making and sharing of ANY art heals us… what do you think about this?
Making new art isn’t something I’ve done much lately myself. I’ve been dealing with some unexpected, plan altering surprises in the last couple of months. I’m still struggling to wrap my head around it all. As I said during my recent IAMA show, It’s like someone came and rearranged the planets while I was asleep and now I don’t know where anything is… the whole universe is different now.
So I’m going to try to write a song about that feeling today.
I hope you take some feeling, some story, some fear, some jubilation, some love and transform it into art, TODAY. It is important that you do it today.
I’m hosting Ten Dollar Pony in concert at my home in SLC on Sunday night. They are a sweet Indie folk duo from near Reno, NV. I love their harmonies and their shining personalities equally! I’m producing this concert through my production company Poison Apple Medicine. To RSVP and receive the address of my tiny house in the Liberty Wells neighborhood of Salt Lake City, e-mail me at: email@example.com
Next Friday (one week from today!) I’m playing a Listening Room Concert at the Self Care Sanctuary in Murray. I’m really hoping that my SLC friends and fans can make it to this one. I’ll play a lot of my newer original solo material accompanied by my guitar and banjo. This a brand new venue and venture that Linda Forrest, the owner is pouring her heart and soul into. Come support original art and original ideas. Doors open at 7pm; the show starts at 7:30pm. Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 day of the show/at the door. Buy tickets here. This will a family-friendly event in a comfortable environment with warm drinks and good cheer. I’ve included the poster below.
Yes, go make some art TODAY.
